Shaper - Planing Machine was invented by Samuel Bentham between 1791-1793. James Nasmyth developed it and took its final form in 1836.
It is used to process the surfaces of the part in an angled or planar manner. The piece is fixed in the vise. A single cutting tool is attached to the machine head and removes chip from the part with a reciprocating motion. While moving forward, the head removes chips, while coming back, the head moves forward and returns to its previous position without removing chips. Depending on the structure of the machine, the lower table or the connecting head of the cutter can be rotated at an angle. The lower table automatically slides to the side, so the workpiece continues to be processed automatically. In some machines, circular operations can be performed by rotating the table to which the workpiece is attached.
